And Jesus Carried the Cross[loop]

Its Christmas and its the time of the year when I get to reflect on my life and my Christian roots. Being an immigrant in North America, its the season I miss my friends and family the most from back home. For us, Christmas has always been the time to gather, spend time with the siblings and just enjoy the time with the folks.
Technology has been a kind friend. It allowed me to keep in touch with folks back home and gain new friends from all over. The advent of free and low cost communication services has allowed more people like me to talk and keep in touch with those who are not close by. The world is becoming smaller. It is a blessing and I’m very much thankful to everyone that made this revolution happen. I share their dream of a smaller world bringing people closer.
Technology and Spirituality, seems worlds apart at first glance, but if you would really reflect on it, you would see that, what technology is really doing is to enable man to satisfy his spiritual needs. As Christ has preached, peace and unity to all of humanity. I firmly believe that technology is helping pave the road to make this a reality.
The advent of free and low cost technology is making knowledge freely available to the masses of the world. Now, more than ever, people specially those in the poorest countries has a greater chance of releasing themselves from the shackles of ignorance and disrespect. Now more than ever they have a greater chance to mingle with the rest of humanity and be treated as brothers and sisters and not as some unknown stranger from a foreign land.
The Internet, email, IM, webcams, VOIP, Crossloop, open source software and even online interactive games are great enablers of equality as they allow more people to get a chance to interact and get to know people from different walks of life all over the world. In the process, helping shatter any of the stereotypes or misconceptions people have about “other” people. Long lost friends are being brought back together rekindling their friendship and happy times when they younger.
Yesterday, I had a great time with an old friend of mine when we used Crossloop, sharing my desktop to him, to show how a Google service work while we also talk on Skype. It was great! as the added interactivity provided by Crossloop made it a richer experience. I can imagine lots of people benefiting from this as well. Soldiers who are stationed in foreign lands can now interact and not just talk to their kids and maybe help them in their assignments. Seniors can now easily communicate with and ask their grandson/daughter to help and teach them how to use their PC and the internet.
As you see, technology can bring families closer. It also has the power to make it easier for humanity to share, help and understand one another. A good way of bringing us closer to Christ’s goal.
Peace and Unity to Everyone.
